Invention Studio is a student-run makerspace located at Georgia Tech, providing free access to advanced prototyping and fabrication equipment for the entire Georgia Tech community. Founded in 2009, the facility underwent a major renovation in 2018, transforming into a cutting-edge, state-of-the-art makerspace designed by HLG Studios with direct input from student volunteers known as Prototyping Instructors (PIs). The space operates on a unique model where students take ownership of the facility, with Prototyping Instructors from all majors and backgrounds volunteering their time to maintain equipment, organize events, and train visitors. The studio features diverse capabilities including 3D printing, CNC machining, laser cutting, woodworking, metalworking, welding, waterjet cutting, electronics, and extended reality (XR) technologies.
